Teaching
in China is certainly an amazing experience. I would recommend it
to everyone looking for something different. The food, people and
culture are unlike anywhere else in the world. My program put me
up in the foreign students block, which meant I was always close
to a competent Chinese speaker who could also speak English; not
such an easy thing outside of Beijing or Shanghai. This meant I
could experience so much more of Chinese culture than a tourist
with a guidebook. Going through TEIC I had a fantastic time at my
placement and, as there are so many countries that border China,
I have used it as a stepping stone for travelling in Mongolia, Kazakhstan,
Kyrgyzstan, Thailand and India.
Professor Thomas was a great help in organising everything beforehand,
with constant reassurance and support at every step of the way,
and then the staff at the office in Jinan, Shandong Province, were
very helpful, picking me up from the airport sorting out my accommodation
very efficiently.
Classes were entertaining and the kids were really fun to teach.
Speaking to other English teachers in the city, the standard of
care I received seems to be superb compared to some other placement
programs. I would definitely recommend TEIC to anyone who would
like to experience what it means to live in China.
